Welcome Back To Memory Lane FM
SPEAKER_01Cue the static, let it spin. Old songs, new scars, tune it in. From the back porch to the AM Glow, these memories still steal the show. We laugh. We ran, we play it loud.
SPEAKER_04Alright, everyone, welcome back to the MT Alternative Podcast Memory Lane FM edition. Tom, what's going on, bud? Not much, Mike. What's going on with you? Oh, I hope you get some good songs for me this week.
SPEAKER_03I've got a a list.
SPEAKER_04I got a theme. I do have a theme. And I hear you have a theme. I have a theme. Figure out each other's themes as this little thing goes on. Anyways, what's been going on, man?
SPEAKER_03Well, not too much.
SPEAKER_04I besides work, we won't bring that shit up again.
SPEAKER_03No, please. Anyway. Get your car running again. My car is running again.
SPEAKER_04We we had a little delay there last week when we went to do a podcast. We had some company.
SPEAKER_03We never got our podcast started.
SPEAKER_04Four little dogs that someone dumped off and ended up in my yard. They turned out good. We got them all adopted, all four of them. I just played with them and went to work. Typical guy shit. But uh back in your car, you get your car running.
SPEAKER_03I'm just saying. I was gonna say something, but I shouldn't have been around. No, that was No, that was the deal. Okay, cool. But yeah, I was just thinking about my wife's car and how we're gonna have to take the the motor mounts out there scared of learning changes for freaking love. Anyway. Anyway. It turned out it wasn't that big a deal.
SPEAKER_04Awesome.
World Cup Pride And Respect
SPEAKER_04Before we dive into the little musical journey that we're on, I wanna talk about the world up that just happened. Like Did you see all the fans before they came like the Europeans and all that? Come for America people would regret going. Okay, you don't expect much. USA, man. United States of America is the best. People say what you want. But it's just it it makes me happy to see all these videos of all these people.
SPEAKER_03And I guess I have to be flattered that other countries want to sneak in and do this but not gonna work.
SPEAKER_04Well, you know what? Right. And these other people sneaking in and trying to get away with stuff is different. Right. You know? Right. And I'm not being racist. Because what I'm talking about is people of different nationalities, different colors, different everything.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely. And they just enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_04They sang along with the unique national. I love that. A lot of them said, you know, we thought it was just uh a bunch of balls, you know, doing anything. But being there and being at a stadium when that actually happened, right? It just brings people together too. It really does. You've got a sport a sporting event, it's like camaraderie at the beginning.
SPEAKER_03It's just everybody does the same thing.
SPEAKER_04I just like I said, watching those videos made me happy, right? A lot of stuff we take for granted, too.
SPEAKER_03It reminds me of a video I saw this week of some stadium. I don't know which one it was. But there was an old man ever getting ready to be at him, and everybody was standing up except for this kid in front of him. He smacked the crap out of the kid. Stand up, man. Even if you don't believe the only one that wasn't standing up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, if even if you don't. You know, people say lots of pre-country no respect. Don't go to the game either.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, you're here. Don't come to America if you're not gonna respect America.
SPEAKER_04If I'm in another country and they're playing international, you're not gonna sit.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna pay respect because that's where I'm at.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. But yeah, I just thought I'd bring that up quick before we start because I just like I said, that that tickled me. I just thought that was awesome. Like, there you go, people. See if you think America sucks.
SPEAKER_03We all can get along. We all can be food and happy and music. And you know what?
SPEAKER_04Music.
SPEAKER_03This is what brings us together.
SPEAKER_04That's what brings us together, Tom. Exactly.
Theme Game Starts With Ronnie
SPEAKER_04So on saying that, what will be your first song, Tom?
SPEAKER_03Oh, the first one I have.
SPEAKER_04Surprise me.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_08Slap my shoulders for the heavy load, copy me again through the paper snack. Almost stands on the late again. He can't stand it when I only grant. He's got me eight hours. She's got me after that. I can't wait till it's put.
SPEAKER_04Alright, Tom. Yeah. Little Ronnie Millsap. Good old Ronnie Millsap. Tom's going back to uh normal Tom music.
SPEAKER_031985. Excellent choice, Tom. Yeah, that song reached uh it was 1985 and it reached number one in June of that year. Excellent. That quick. All right. I always said Ronnie Mills Hapkin.
SPEAKER_04I like his voice.
SPEAKER_03I can sing happy birthday and make it.
SPEAKER_04Do I have any CDs or anything? But you know, Lucky Martin Reigns, one of my favorites, man. I love that song. Yeah, surprise everybody, I guess.
SPEAKER_03But every every artist has got that song, man, and and the talent that people have, and that's what brings us together. Done every hard, done happy. Christian or anything like that. Just gotta have a connection.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely right. But um anyway. So I guess it's my turn.
SPEAKER_03Yes, it is your turn.
SPEAKER_04And I know we played that song out, but it was a good song, so I figured I'd play that out. Your song. Right. I I I do approve. Right. That's Ronnie Millsap. How can you not? It's got a smooth voice, man.
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_04All right, my next song. Are you ready? I'm ready. Okay.
Love Stinks And Concert Chaos
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Okay. I'm getting a good direction.
SPEAKER_04Mine was a dead giveaway, huh? Yeah, I all love stinks. Yep, that song that came out in 1980. Yeah. Jay Giles. Peter Wolf. What a great voice, man. I love the Jay Giles band, but I have a couple stories. They kind of go together. Wait a minute. Peter Wolf? Peter Wolf. That's a singer for Jay Giles. I thought that was a not the fairy tale, no. Peter Wolf, singer for Jay Giles. Anyways. I saw Jay Giles twice. Right. Love Jay Giles. Four times I went, I don't remember anything. The first time I went, me and my friend Danny ended up sitting in some seats. I guess there's a bunch of girls who wanted to sit there. We ended up getting in a fight with girls. Really? Yeah, his brother and somebody else are like, what the hell's going on? Drunk as fuck. The other time I went with my girlfriend. My friend Ken, his girlfriend. My friend Sean and his girlfriend. Ended up trying to go take a piss.
SPEAKER_03I was gonna shake your face. Your body goes.
SPEAKER_04Somebody was over me and I went to punch him. And Sean's like, no, no, there's some somebody thought I was like knocked out or something. No. Took me to the bathroom, maybe both times I saw Jay Giles, I don't remember. It's sad. It's fucked up. I don't know why, what happened, but Jay Girls brought up that was Jay Giles. Yeah. That's my story.
SPEAKER_03That's awesome. Yeah, I guess. Yeah, well, you know head to a concert and end up in a cornfield.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and that's what happens.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Whatever. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04So we'll move on from that little sad story. So in your next song.
SPEAKER_03See if I can figure your little theme. Yeah, let's go. Here we
Work Songs And Blue Collar Anthems
SPEAKER_03go. This is probably gonna give it away.
SPEAKER_12Take this job and shove it. I ain't working here no more. I was working for. You better not try to stand in my way as I'ma walking out the door. Take this job and shove it. I ain't working here no more. I've been working in this factory for now fifteen years. All this time I watched my woman, drowning in a pool of tears. And I've seen a lot of good folk die, had a lot of bills to pay. I'd give the shirt right off of my back. And I had the grudge to say, Take this job and shove it. I ain't working here no more. A woman done to left, took all the reasons I was working for. You better not try standing my way as I'ma walking out the door. Take this job and shove it. I ain't working ahead no more. Well, that phone, he's a regular dog. The lion boss, he's fool. Got a brand new flat top haircut. Lord thinks he's cool. One of these days I'm gonna blow my top and that sucker. He's gonna play. Lord, I can't wait to see their faces when I get the nerve to say, take this job and stuff. I ain't working here no more. A woman on the left took all the reasons I was working for. You better not try to stand in my way and I'm walking out the door. Take this job and shove it. I ain't working here no more. Take this job and shove it.
SPEAKER_04All right, Tom.
SPEAKER_03A little Johnny Paycheck, huh? You kind of get a direction of where I'm going here. A little bit. Not sure yet, though, Tom. Okay. Two different songs. Yeah, two completely. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04A little surprise there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So why that song?
SPEAKER_04Well, I just don't tell me, I guess I don't want to. I'm trying to figure out your theme.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, I'm just saying that song's always rang a bell with me. I mean it goes to any blue-collar worker, pretty much. Exactly. Exactly.
SPEAKER_04And that reminds me when I got my first job at a newspaper place. It was a Sky Russell that worked years older than me and he loved Johnny Paycheck. Oh right. Every time that song came on, he'd be singing away. Yeah, you just leave John's memories.
SPEAKER_03And you just you you I sing that song at work a lot and you know, take this job and show.
SPEAKER_04It's a good song. Johnny Paycheck.
SPEAKER_03Who sang that originally? Uh David Alan Cole wrote it. Okay, okay. He sings it too, right? I believe so. He has. Okay.
SPEAKER_04He has a version. And I'm sure a lot of other people sing it. It's a great song. I mean, why wouldn't you?
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_04Alrighty. My turn. Your turn. All right. Let's see. Uh well, there's really no surprise, but here we go.
Breakup Tracks And Beachy Detours
SPEAKER_03All right. Figure out where I'm going yet? Get my team? Two songs in?
SPEAKER_04Dan Haler. I think that's uh 1978, right around the first album. I think I talked about this before the podcast and like play music came up from store down the road. He's like, I got this new album. And I'm like, oh, let's listen to it. I'm like, what the hell is this? Exactly. I wonder where Mike's going. Anyway, any comments?
SPEAKER_03Sounds like you've been through the phone. I think we all have. I think we are. How many people left their house? Miles away because of a woman. I wonder who that was. Anyway.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Let's see. I still haven't figured out because I thought I had a peg, but uh I guess we'll see what this one is. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Don't ever stop. Seven three. Tough work. All the big convenience. Going up. Go off and didn't say for his won't be the last. Round o'clock. Seven of three. Talking about a bunch of work. Seven to three. With the money upstairs. Round the bottom. I drive my money away. Seven to three. Three to left. Eleven to seven. I'm talking about a bunch of seven to three. Three to eleven. Eleven. Seventh of three. Three to eleven. Eleven step. Seven of three. Three to eleven. Eleven to step.
SPEAKER_04All right, Tom, you got me stuck. Who is that?
SPEAKER_03That's Kimmy Chesney and George Drake.
SPEAKER_04Ah. Okay. It sounds very beachy. Yeah. Kenny Chesney's the uh that other guy that does uh James Taylor. No, not James Taylor.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy Buffett.
SPEAKER_04So George Straight did some beachy stuff with Kenny Chesney. Oh, I didn't know. I think I hit both right on the back. A lot of drinking going on. The first song kind of stuck me. Yeah, well, it was the first song.
SPEAKER_03I thought it was going the same way.
SPEAKER_04I'm getting that now. All right. Well, yeah.
The Little Dudes Crash The Show
SPEAKER_04You know what, though? What this is a great time to dive in for the yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the little dudes. Yeah, that little guys. I guess we ought to let them in.
SPEAKER_04All right, we'll see what's happening this week. Folks, we'll be right back.
SPEAKER_07How do I get out of here? Well, we just move the button over a little bit. The button? Yeah, but button, who's got the button? You sound funny. I know. There we go. It's not the chocolate. Well, who knows? I didn't eat one. How about the mushrooms? Yeah, I think that has a little something to do with it. Hey, here we go. Oh yeah, there's a mushroom. Hey, what's going on? Sweet, not much. What's going on with you? Can't figure out what just happened. I know what happened. I don't mean fill me in like that. Put that away. Okay. Louise. I did you guys put up the Louise's name around and give it to your daughter. Anyway, we got a I guess uh last time it happened. I know. Why did you know it happened when I'm here? I don't know, I won't have pretty good. She'll still be there when you get out of here, sweet. She was there last time. Like evil. So when when do I get to meet my day? You know, whatever we'll say. Okay, yeah, yeah. We go in better places than that. Why can't we invite him on to the show? Are you ashamed of him? I'm not ashamed of him at all. I'm I'm just saying I don't know if he's gonna fit in with your real behave situation you got going on. I know, that's why I'm gonna lie, you know, me, you get my other way. We are going to the Burgeon Islands this weekend. US Burgeon Island US Burger Mike. I don't know what goes on this week. I'm just saying that. Where are we going? Idiot yet. Idiot. You remember that one? Yeah. Yeah. I don't know what a way. I would like to talk to you. Between you and him. I don't like you. I wouldn't be good at all. You did it, you get all over your windshield. Anyway, anyway. We'll discuss this out there. Yes, because we're don't worry, because he's outside waiting anyway. You don't have to go to his place. Someone showed me the back door. There is no That's what that memo is outside. You'll be sitting in that memo. I go with you, but I'm not allowed. Sweet, I think you jump in the gun, buddy. Then why would you mention the gun? Why is that noise? I don't hear that. Why is it that little alarm go on? That was an alarm, sweet. I heard it. I gotta go. That's what that means. Oh, is that uh Apple Louise? Louise Apple says I'm on my way. She's telling you about mom? Yeah. Her mom? Every mom. Alright. Well, I'll meet you outside. Introduce you to Mr. P. Oh, alright. It's a done deal, Squeak. Say bye to everybody, Squeak.
unknownBye, everybody.
SPEAKER_07Don't be back, don't worry. Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_04All right, Tom. Uh I don't know what's going on with the little dude's there. Yeah, whoever does. So they named their kids, Greek named their kids Louise. All they did was reverse Ethel Louise's name. Yeah. That makes no fucking sense. She wanted your mama's name. Okay. Just use the mother's name as your middle name. Oh, whatever. Oh boy. Anyway. Yep. Get back to our music, which seems more. All right. I'm up next. Yes, you are. So this won't be a surprise, but this goes with my theme.
Joan Jett And Love Gone Wrong
SPEAKER_03Go ahead and kill our love again.
SPEAKER_04Ow. Yep. Little Joan Jett, Tom. Yeah. I hate myself for loving you. All right, that song came out in 1988. Yep. Lots of MTV airplay.
SPEAKER_03A lot of it.
SPEAKER_04Well, when you look good. Just a little note. It was Joan Jett's third and last single to reach the top ten. It was a first since creating flavor in 1983. Which was uh originally done by Tommy James and Sean Dallas. So yeah. Joan Jet. I hate myself for loving you. My theme's like harder to figure out, is it? Alright, Tom. So no comments and no smart ass remarks.
SPEAKER_03I'm always waiting for that smart ass commentary. I just wonder what happened.
SPEAKER_04She's a comment monster now.
SPEAKER_03Uh yeah, but she always was, I guess. I still like to watch her.
SPEAKER_04My favorite though from back then with the runaways was Lita Ford.
SPEAKER_03Lita Ford was bad. She was.
SPEAKER_04Still hot looking. But anyways, Tom, we'll move on. What's your next song? Are you gonna shock me or is are we gonna stay in that same genre?
SPEAKER_03We're gonna stay in the same well, a little bit shocking, but Okay. Same. All right, let's see what you got.
Chain Gang Grit And Prison Talk
SPEAKER_06I hear something saying. That's the sound of the men working on the chain. That's the sound of the men working on the chain. Yay, working on the same. That's the sound of the men working on the chain. Yeah, that's the sound of the men working on the chain. Yeah. All day long they work so hard. Till the sun is going down. Working on the highways and byways and wearing, wearing a frown. You hear them moaning their lives away. Then you hear somebody say. That's the sound of the men working on the chain. Yay. That's the sound of the men working on the chain. Yay. Can't you hear them saying? I'm going home one of these days. I'm going home to see my woman, whom I love so dear. I've got to work right ahead. That's the sound of the limb, working on the chain. That's the sound of the limb, working on the chain. Game working on the chain. My work is so hard. Give me water. I'm thirsty, ma work is so hard. My ma work is so hard.
SPEAKER_03All right, Tom. Sam cooked, huh? Yeah, old Sam. Yeah. Allegedly, what I heard is he wrote that song in his experience of being in jail.
SPEAKER_04Excellent. So am I to assume you're interpreting where we were to represent?
SPEAKER_03But anyway.
SPEAKER_04Oh man. Took a little minute. Took like two songs after the first one, because the first one threw me off. I mean, I thought it was going totally.
SPEAKER_03See, and I was thinking I picked a good one that that talked about it all the way through, but he only had that one verse.
SPEAKER_04And I missed that verse, so I'm I'm listening to the song as a whole.
SPEAKER_03Right, right, right.
SPEAKER_04Well, we are going off as it's going off. I'm in prison and I'm gonna fucking drink my life away. My life is over. Okay. Very depressing Tom. Anyway. You think? Hold on, cuz it gets better. I got another one. I like to say, well, Stephanie's gonna make this one a little more energetic. The last one a little more energetic.
SPEAKER_03Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_04The words might be a little different, but yes, it's a little more happier.
SPEAKER_03Is this gonna make us want to stab our eyeballs out? No, no, no, no. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_04Be rebellion type shit. All right, here we go.
Pat Benatar Energy Boost
SPEAKER_09Spinning over my head. From me and your promise fit. And you know that you are heartbreaker. Do you make it? Don't you mess around with me, you're brother heartbreaker.
SPEAKER_04Pat Benettarner debut out. Yeah, boy. Heartbreaker. Fun fact. That is not Pat Benatar's song. That song was done by Jenny Darren in 1978 off the album Queen of Fools. Pat Benatar did it out to change the lyrics up a little bit. A little fun fact there. And of course you have Neil Giraldo, now her husband, on guitar. Great guitarist. So yeah, Pat Benatar, Heartbreaker.
SPEAKER_03She was then.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, she still is. Yeah, she still is. Probably just a little me. But anyway, I digress. Great song, Tom. Brings back a lot of memories. I remember being in high school when that came out. So what do you got up next, Tom? Well, are we sticking to the same little kind of mellow?
SPEAKER_03We're kind of sticking to it, but this is a little more upbeat. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Oh, nothing wrong with your songs. I'm just wondering where you're going, that's all. Alright.
SPEAKER_03Here we go. Here it is.
Working Man Blues And Hard Truths
SPEAKER_13It's a big job just getting by with nine kids and a wife. But I've been working man danger all my life and I'll keep on working. Long's my two hands are fit to use. I'll drink my beer in a tavern. Sing a little bit of these working man blues. I keep my nose on the grindstone. Work hard every day. I might get a little tide on the weekend. After I draw my paint, I go back working. Come Monday morning, I'm right back with the crew. I drank a little beer that evening. Sang a little bit of these working man blues. Sometimes I think about leaving, do little bumming around. I wanna throw my pills out the window, catch a train to another town. I'm back working. Gotta buy my kids a brand new pair of shoes. I drank a little beer in a tavern. Cry a little bit of these working man blues. Here comes that working man, hey, hey, the working man, working man like me. Ain't never been on welfare. That's one place I won't be. I'll be working. Long my two hands are fit to use. I'll drink my beer in a tavern. Sang a little bit of these working man blues. This song for the working man.
unknownHuh.
SPEAKER_04Alright, Tom. Doing a little Merle. Yeah, a little working man blues. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with that. Nope. Honestly, it's easy to see your theme now. Yeah. You live a sad life, you work all day and you drink all night. That's it. That's Tom's life.
SPEAKER_03That's my that's my life. But I'm good at it. Yeah, here you are. I'm probably some of the best.
SPEAKER_04Would you call yourself a professional? Professional sad person?
SPEAKER_03Well, it depends on what part of town you are.
SPEAKER_04I work in your factory.
SPEAKER_03Anyway. The next place I see that has a sign that says come in with Treaty Like Family. Well, you know what's sad? Yeah, I'm going in.
SPEAKER_04This is the last song. And then we're done. And then we're done. Until next time.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. Okay. Alright. I live with that.
SPEAKER_04Alright. Here's how I'm gonna end this with this song. Like a lot of people, if you ever watched MTV or R. Age or MTV, you know this song.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
Final Song And Where To Find Us
SPEAKER_04Cinderella, somebody save me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, save me from Cinderella. Ah, another great song. Yeah. But I'll tell you what, I enjoy this was awesome. This theme thing, you know, you haven't.
SPEAKER_04I gotta admit, at the beginning I did think we were going totally opposites on the low thing. I'm not gonna lie, that first song threw me off, Tom. A little bit. Tried to listen to the lyrics as best I could, and I got okay, guys. Okay, I get it. Alright, me, it's like, yeah, fuck you. Fuck me over, screw you.
SPEAKER_03You know, this this has really been a good thing because a lot of it just having so much fun.
SPEAKER_04Enjoy the music. I mean, we are right now we're just enjoying the music. This is what we really wanted to do. I mean, we're we're still gonna cut up a right now, like I said, Harmini or Internet music thing. I'm listening to songs I never heard of.
SPEAKER_03I'm hearing songs that I've never heard of. We're trying to get everybody opened up to different genres.
SPEAKER_04Right. We shouldn't be fucking fine. Fucking happy. Moving on.
SPEAKER_03Come on, right again. One of these days he's gonna tell us how he really feels. Exactly.
SPEAKER_04It's been a great day. We've had some quite a couple days of range, so we don't do it. What the hell is up with that?
SPEAKER_03You want to fucking hold my freaking freaking broken anyway, what the fuck with the punch right here?
SPEAKER_04Everyone can all our podcasts like on my name. Our website. Leave a review with a microphone on the bottom right. Let us know if there's any things you'd like to hear. Give us some critique. We're fine with it.

SPEAKER_03Big shout out to them. And Josh. Faithful. You know who you are, Josh. Yep. Faithful listeners every time.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. So everyone, take care. God bless. Later.
