It's like I liken it to two guys, you know, friends when you were younger, you sat around, you brought records over to your friend's house, you played some songs for each other, learned some new music. Back in those days. Back in the day.

So I can just give a little rundown of stuff, you know. A lot of people watch this. It's weird. It's like a community of people and get on that. I'm not gonna lie. It broke me up. I don't know why. I can't explain why. It was just something I was attached to and watched for a couple few years now, which I would have watched longer, but I didn't start doing it till like three years ago.

Let me give a little rundown here that I know of is Jackie and Shadow, they became famous because of a live camera. They got a camera up on a purchase scene that I've shown you. Watch the watch when they go through their little thing when they're laying their eggs when a little hatching. It's like you're watching a drama. You really are. You're watching a family. You're invested in this. And it goes back, Jackie yourself was actually hatched in Big Bear Valley in 2012. Originally from a pair of eagles called Ricky and Lucy. The current Shadow is in her brother, because they became these eagles kind of the same. Right. But uh he became Shadow actually became a mate arriving near and eventually established himself as a resident male. They called him Shadow because she was with the Sugar Eagle for a while and Shadow Dom. So that's why the name Shadow. So that's a good idea. The good part was with the babies. One of the best, better known surviving offspring was Spirit, who hatched in 2022 and successfully clutched. Now I didn't watch it then. Right. I got into it the year after. There was also heartbreaking seasons where eggs failed to hatch, but chicks didn't survive. And sadly, one thing people think from watching from home sometimes forget it's like you're used to watching a TV show, and it's within 40 minutes the TV show, you get everything, it's done. But with TV was it wasn't nature doesn't work that way. And sometimes the egg doesn't hatch. And sometimes the chick doesn't make it. And I've watched those times. I'd watch the times when it sat on eggs and nothing hatched the whole the whole season. Then there was this other three. There was Misty, Sonny, and Gizmo. They all hatched, they looked good, then it was a snowstorm. Didn't survive. And watching that kind of like trying to get your heart. I don't want to watch this anymore. But the things Jackie did, she sat through a snowstorm once, covered in snow for almost 72 hours. The next ones you had after those three the next things didn't hatch. Then there was Sandy and Luna this year. Right. So those were the ones that she let you know after the ones I saw fly away. Right, right, yes, exactly. Sandy and Luna, I get into Pan Game. I watched them fled by accident. Because one knocked that's what you saw, one knocked the other one off and kinda had a little clumsy fledging there. And then uh July 17th, Jackie was rescued after being found grounded following an apparent confrontation with other eagles. She was taken for treatment and was found to be suffering from severe anemia and other health problems. Despite attention care, including a blood transfusion and artistic care, Jackie died on August 10th at age 14. Jackie was in somebody's care, he wasn't trying to get it. A good thing that came out of this is as much as I hate to say the origin for the lining. Developers wanted to buy the property and develop right with all the shit. They raised ten million dollars to buy fifty-one acres in that area for the conservatory or something. So that's a good thing that came out about it. But now there's another eagle flying around. I think the family knows that both for a while by looking for where she is. But anyway, on ending that there's a new little missus flying around now. And you know, we'll see what happens if you end up a new new chapter in the story. Well, I watched this time. I don't know. I probably will, but now I just I just got into it. Sorry to sound mushy and everything, it's but yeah, it's just anyways. I just wanted to talk about that nature changes.

It meant a lot to me when I watched this for the last three years, and this is why it took me a little longer to put this podcast out. I just, like I said, this is a little tribute to Jackie. Something I had to get off my chest. Hope you don't mind. If you don't want to listen to it, probably you know, seven minutes long, whatever, and you can just fast forward to the end, get out of it. But, anyways, uh, in closing, too, it was Labor Day weekend's gonna be coming up. I wish everybody a great Labor Day weekend. Hope you have a good time. Be careful out there. And with that, here's my tribute. Uh all right, I'm gonna start this off. I don't know how this is gonna be, people, but this is just things I have to say. I know it's a little sentimental, Sonny, a little different from where we are in this podcast, but well, here it goes. There's some things some things in life become part of your routine without you even realizing it. For the last three years, Jackie and Shadow have been one of those things for me. I didn't know them the way you know a friend or a family member. I never stood beside them. I never got to touch them or hear them up close, but somehow they became a part of my life. I watched them almost every day. I watched Jackie and Shadow build their nest. I watched them raise their eaglets. I watched the little ones grow, become independent, and eventually leave. I watched when there was good days, the difficult days, and all those moments that probably seemed ordinary to everybody else, but weren't ordinary to those of us who are watching. It's quite the community. And somewhere along the way, Jackie stopped being just an ego on the camera to me. She became Jackie. She had a personality, and she had a presence, and sh and she had a story. And now she's gone. And I have to admit, I'm having a hard time putting putting in the words exactly what that feels like. It's a strange kind of loss. I never actually knew Jackie in the traditional sense, but I feel a loss anyway. And I think a lot of the people do too. I see that online. It's but for the last three years, I was allowed into this little window of the world. Many of us watched her live her life. We watched her and Shadow do what eagles do, build a home, raise their young, protected their family, and they just kept going. And maybe that's why it hurts. Because we didn't just watch an eagle. We watched a family. We watched seasons come and go, we watched eagles arrive and grow. We We watched Jackie and Shadow become parents again and again. And a lot of us became invested. And a lot of us we cared. And I guess that's what made this difficult. And there's people who will say, and people have said to me it's just an eagle, and it's true, to I guess, but and I understand it, but to the people who watched Jackie for the years sh all those years, she wasn't just an ego. She was part of our mornings. Part of our evenings. Part of our conversations on lives. Sh she was a part of our lives. And for me, Jackie represents something even bigger than that. She reminds me how easy it is to become connected to something without ever physically being there. In in a world where so much of what we see is noise, a lot of negativity, people arguing with each other. There was something incredibly peaceful about sitting down and watching two eagles simply live. Jackie didn't know how many people were watching her. She she didn't know how many people cared. She didn't know how many of us celebrated all the successful hatches. The first flights. All the little milestones. She was just being Jackie. And maybe just maybe that's the most beautiful part of all. She lived her life. She raised her babies. She loved her mate in the only way an eagle can. She did what nature asked her to do. She left an imprint on thousands, maybe millions of people. So today, I don't really want to talk about Jackie as a tragedy. I just wanted to talk about her as a life, a life that mattered. A life that brought joy to people she never knew. A life that gave us some some people, maybe a lot of people, look something to look forward to. A life that gave us memories, and I think that's what I'm going to carry with me. I remember Jackie and Shadow. I remember the Nest. I remember the Eaglets. I remember watching them grow. And I remember for that for three years an eagle named Jackie became a small but meaningful part of my life. I think that's a pretty incredible legacy for one bird. So, Jackie. Thank you. Thank you for letting us watch. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the little eaglets. And thank you for reminding us that sometimes something as simple as watching an eagle live her life can bring people together. And you'll not be forgotten.
