Exploring Nightwish's Musical Evolution
Speaker 2I have here . Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band formed in 1996 by Tomas Holopainen , who is the band's primary songwriter and keyboardist . They are known for their unique blend of heavy metal with orchestral and operatic elements , creating a grand and cinematic sound . There are some key points about Nightwish . Their formation in the early years . Nightwish was formed in a small town of Kitti I hope I get that right Finland . The original lineup consisted of Tomas , guitarist Empu and vocalist Tarja . Their debut album , angels Fall First , was 1997 , showcased their early symphonic sound . But it was the second album , oceanborn 1998 , that brought them international recognition . Now they've had up to now three different vocalists , right . So Tavia , the first one , 1996-2005 , and she was known more for her operatic voice .

Speaker 2I didn't let you listen to much of her Great singer . It's just my thing . Honestly , I'm not into that singing constantly on a song . She has a wonderful voice . I'll never knock her for that . She made a lot of songs good . Then there was Annette Olsen . She replaced Haria and she brought more of a rock-oriented pop sound . I let you listen to her . I let you listen to a difference from the singer now , Floor Jansen , to her . And what did you think ?
Speaker 3There is a difference ? Yeah , there is a definite difference . Yeah , there's a lot of difference . The range is not there Not at all .
Speaker 2Not at all , I mean a great singer , but the range yeah singer but a poppy sound , more pop .

Speaker 2Those two albums with her singing Were their best albums Because the songs were wrote for her . But Tomás , that's how he writes , he'll write for the person . Then , after she left that was 2007 or 2012 Floor came in and basically 2012 , 2013 she was put in the band officially she's the lead vocalist now and she has been since then . But she's known for her versatile voice and she can handle both operatic and rock styles and she's helped solidify Nightwish's status as one of the leading bands in the symphonic metal genre . Their albums I already mentioned Oceanborn , wishmaster , which was a good album , once , and Dark Passion Play . Those are the two with the net Floors on Endless Forms , both Beautiful and Human . 2 , nature , and then they have a new one out I think it's Yesteryear or whatever . Now I haven't got a chance to listen to it , but that'll drop in September sometime .
Speaker 2Their musical style their symphonic metal style , which combines heavy metal with symphonic and operatic elements . Their music often features orchestral arrangements , choir vocals and themes ranging from fantasy and mythology to nature and science . Their global influence Nightwish is one of the most successful Finnish bands worldwide , with a strong fan base across Europe , north America and Latin America . They are considered pioneers of the symphonic metal genre and have influenced many other bands in the genre , which there are many . I don't really follow any newer bands in the United States , now , not to say there isn't any good bands out there . There are , they just don't get pushed up front Like all this . Yeah , get back to the Taylor Swift crap again . Oh , my God , you know everything's cookie cutter music , but a lot of these bands sound the same . We talked about the Warning last week . Right , they have elements too of different , but they have their own sound .

Speaker 3Well , I have to tell you some of my favorite parts of what I've listened to of Nightwish is that they bring out the theatrical part . It is Ghost .

It has folky you know what I'm talking about and then it's combined with hard rock and it's great you love the guitar sound the guitar riffs are awesome , I think that was on Storytime yes , Storytime the guitar riffs are just phenomenal .

Speaker 3He's like 5'3" , Hence the Elfish song probably .
Speaker 2And you have Yuka on drums . He was a drummer until 2014 , but that's when I was telling you about it . Saw him there big time , oh yeah . So he backed out of drumming and he ended up having a friend of his , kai , from the band Wintersun , come in . Just did you fill in ? Well , now he's the new drummer and the drummer's phenomenal . You have Marco , who isn't there anymore either . That was one of my favorites on bass . Great background , great harmonizing with floor . Their voices blended perfectly . So you have another guy Yuka , another Yuka now that plays bass . He doesn't sing , great bassist too . And then you have somebody you might know .
